Indeed, packaging and its raw materials, such as steel, are essential for the continued flow of goods (particularly food, hygiene products and medicines) at all times.
As a result, during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the European Commission opened the designated priority lanes (“green lanes”) for the intra-EU transport of packaging and materials, in order to guarantee the uninterrupted circulation of critical health-related and perishable goods. A situation which is re-confirmed in the ongoing second wave.
