Studies on deposit schemes
Effects of deposits on beverage packaging in Germany (Prognos study) : APEAL, Ball Packaging Europe and SKB (Stichting Kringloop Blik) commissioned a study with Prognos, a well known German/Swiss consultant in strategic & environmental consultancy. The study assessed the environmental and macro‐economic impact of the mandatory deposit on one‐way drinks packaging in Germany. Conclusions show that the mandatory deposit has not reached its objectives. On the contrary it has led to an acceleration in the reduction in market share of refillable drinks packaging, with only a marginal impact in terms of environmental benefits.
