Optimized canmaking : a new concept converting production from a discontinuous to a continuous process has the potential to vastly simplify the canmaking process in the future. The process is achieved by multiple-track welding of an upper and lower tinplate strip to form tubes running to several kilometres in length. The tubes can then be cut to size to achieve the desired can height and subsequently eased into the required shape. Main Advantages : Highly economical in terms of material and cost due to continuous production process High quality welds are achieved through the use of laser welding and cutting techniques. Potential for wider variety of can geometry (eg square, rectangular etc) through use of laser welds. |
