Klann Verpackungen GmbH., founded by Hermann Klann in 1947, is located in the romantic town of Landshut, close to Munich. The company was purchased in 1989 by Huber, the reputed German metal packaging group.
When I met Christian Kerber, Managing Director, and Lothar Künzig, Sales Director in their impressive modern plant location, Christian Kerber stressed, «One of our major strengths is the fact that we have acquired expertise over the years, developed in-house by our technicians as a result of many years of experience in this specialised segment of the can making industry. If you want to be able to supply something unique, standard manufacturing equipment and standard procedures are just not enough! You have to use knowledge developed on the spot with competent and experienced engineers, toolmakers and operators».

What is the primary objective of your company?
Lothar Künzig: Our objective is to meet the very special marketing and design requirements of our customers by using our in-depth knowledge of a market, in which we have specialised for more than half a century in order to achieve a steel packaging solution which is specifically adapted to their needs.

Are there other important assets that the Klann company possesses?
CK: One of our major strengths is flexibility. We have approximately 300 basic can-making tools in stock, and by using variations of these tools we are able to respond quickly with a cost effective solution to requests for very specific can shapes.

How do consumers benefit from the special advantages of your products?
CK: For example, the hinges on our cans are more stable and smoother offering more strength and security for the consumer. The embossing techniques we use are unique. Our embossing stations are an integral part of the forming process giving the advantage of an embossed image which is perfectly integrated in the overall decoration, enhancing the container’s consumer appeal.
LK: Many of our clients’ designers and marketing groups insist on hidden beads which is one of our specialities. Interior beading gives a flush and smooth finish that is a distinctive feature of our high quality packaging range.

CK: We are one of the leading European manufacturers of speciality packaging, and in this unique packaging market segment our innovative designs are recognised for their quality and technology.
